Eternal Paris

“Well,’ I said, ‘Paris is old, is many centuries. You feel, in Paris, all the time gone by. That isn’t what you feel in New York — ’

-Giovanni’s Room (James Baldwin)

Even as France, and the world, is recovering from the shock of heinous terrorist attacks on the Charlie Hebdo offices in Paris, I am uploading some of my old photographs of Paris: an indomitable, unsurmountable beacon of resilience, liberty and freedom. (You can click on individual photographs to see the original size).

Paris is eternal, and no irrational act of violence, terrorism or hatred can destroy its beauty, history, culture and spirited people. This post is dedicated to the memory of all those brave martyrs who defended, until their very last breath, our collective basic human right to express, to have our own voice.

Paris will never forget them, and neither can the rest of the free world. Freedom and tolerance are the parents of peace and calm. Let us learn to live, and let live.
